Study Room

Study room

The Archivio di Stato is a place that preserves a large amount of historical documentation. Over time, historians and specialists interested in the past have frequented it.  Today, like a visit to a museum or another cultural complex, the State Archive attracts a broader and more varied public, underlining the public nature of the documents it preserves. In fact, consultation of the documentation is free.

However, unlike other cultural assets which can be enjoyed even without the aid of a guide, archives can disorientate the visitor due to the complexity of the information contained in the documents and the procedures necessary to view the materials.

General information

The study room is open to the public from Monday to Friday from 08.15 to 15.00.

Adults and accompanied minors can access the consultation after completing the admission application and presenting an identification document. This registration is valid for one year and must be renewed upon expiry.

There are 12 consultation stations available, 5 of which have electrical sockets for laptops.

It is possible to request up to a maximum of 10 pieces per day, which can possibly be kept for a month in a special environment to allow consultation in the following days.

The wait for delivery is a maximum of 45 minutes.

The analogue research tools can be freely consulted exclusively within the study room.

Anyone who uses documentary material from the State Archive is obliged to cite the source and deliver three copies of any publication or a copy of the degree or doctoral thesis.
